Shoot With a Purpose
Mounted Archery Tournament 2023
and Greybeard's Viking Experience

Our second national mounted archery tournament will be held this once again at the historic Meadow Event Park in Doswell, Virginia, on April 1-2, 2023. This is a national ranking event and some of the best mounted archers from around the U.S. will be competing.  For this year's tournament,  we will run the Tower90, the Raid233 and the Hunt.  Each unique course challenges the riders shooting ability and riding skills.  It is truly a team effort between each rider and their horse.

Last year we had Greybeard the Viking and several members of his Viking horde over our weekend.  We are thrilled to announce that we have partnered with Greybeard's Viking Experience and there will be a full on Viking Festival all weekend, complete with entertainment (can you say fire breathing, Viking games and axe throwing?), shopping and food.  Want to really immerse yourself in the experience?  Camping is available for those who are up to the challenge!  In addition there will be a heavy athletics competition as part of our weekend festivities.

Please visit Greybeard's Viking Experience to purchase event tickets and camping passes.  One ticket grants entry into all events.   Single day and weekend tickets are available.  Gates open at 8:30 a.m. each day.  Due to horses being on the premises we ask that you please leave all pets at home. The Dahlquin Award for Best Costume

We are happy to announce our partnership with Archer’s Grace and author Anne M. Beggs at our tournament this year. The main character of the Dahlquin Series, Eloise, will be competing in the tournament in the hearts of all our amazing competitors (warriors). A Dahlquin Award will be given to the best historically dressed horse and rider whether that be Celtic, Hungarian, Mongolian, Viking, etc., and GreyBeards Viking Experience will be judging and presenting that award. We anticipate and encourage our spectators to also come dressed as warriors. Based on participation GreyBeard and his Vikings will be giving a Dahlquin award to the best dressed spectator each day as well. Are we having fun yet?

Course Descriptions

Our mounted archers will be competing on three challenging courses over both days: The Hunt, The Raid and the Tower. The Hunt is a cross country course that requires the rider to navigate several turns and shoot targets while doing so including a target 30 meters away. The Raid may be the fastest course, requiring riders to shoot 2-5 targets, front shots and back shots on a straight 90 meter track in less than 14 seconds. The Tower course has targets placed high and allows the riders to shoot a volley of arrows, as many as they can, in 90 meters some of which can be 40 meters+.
